A new register prohibiting grog sales to problem drinkers is just another banned drinker register (BDR), the Northern Territory Opposition has said. The NT Licensing Commission has banned the Top Springs Hotel from selling alcohol to anyone on an Alcohol Protection Order, amid a raft of tough new licence conditions. The isolated hotel 300 kilometres south of Katherine sells more than 95 per cent of its takeaway alcohol to people living in the surrounding Aboriginal communities, which have a history of alcohol-related violence and health problems.
